Jens Wendelstorf:
Numerics and software
3. Numerical software (CFD) for gas discharge modelling
Some additional details on this work can be be found in a consistent and
scientifically elaborated form in my
dissertation.
The following introduction is short, but somewhat outdated.
Calculation codes for the following type of equations were successfully developed:
- Partial differential equations of the type
- Systems of (stiff) ordinary differential equations (boundary value problems).
- Systems of nonlinear equations.
- Solver for the linear systems from the discretisation of the above.
For the multidimensional areas, the finite volume method is used.
The software was developed application specific, including multigrid enhancement
and the grid generator. This approach offers several unique features, especially
for the (electric and thermal) boundary layer treatment.
For accurate predictions, special attention to the
selection of all boundary conditions is vital (even if these
not contribute to the final sensitivity map), e.g.:
Here, the devil lies in the detail!
